09.02.15 Goodbye Vientiane – Hello Vang Vieng

The pickup is late. What a surprise. We’ve left the big bags at the hotel and are ready for a light travel to the north of Laos. If only the pickup will arrive.
It’s not only us waiting in the lobby. A Korean guy is also there and we speak about the situation while waiting. 10:10 our pickup arrived, but not his. Seconds later his arrives also, and behold! We’re put in the same tuk-tuk to take us to the bus. We didn’t drive 300 meters before we were at the bus. Right, that was worth waiting for.

Luckily we’re early compared to others, and a French couple we spoke to onboard was transferred over to this because the one they were supposed to be on was full. We get good seats and move out. We spend a lot of time getting out of Vientiane and thereby get only ten minutes at the rest stop. Just enough to eat a baguette each, buy a carrot and take a pee.

When we arrive in Vang Vieng we’re thirty minutes early. We walk to town and try two places before we found our guesthouse. It is not particular nice, but it seems clean even though there are holes in both the linen and the towels. We go out again immediately and look for green discovery. They arrange a two day trekking tour we want to join.

We get the tour organized and it starts tomorrow at nine. Now we take a little walk around and see what the town has to offer. I’m having a headache and just trudge along, but I do enjoy the scenery. We get dinner that’s ok, but not memorable and walk some more. It’s a nice little town, but it’s clear there is a lot more partying here.
We head back to our room and go to bed. Now we see I have rashes several places. The carrot or the baguette made me react to something. Hopefully I’ll sleep it off.

“Oh, Eeyore, you are wet!” said Piglet, feeling him.
Eeyore shook himself, and asked somebody to explain to Piglet what happened when you had been inside a river for quite a long time.”

Humongen! The big guy! The man, the myth, the legend! And then theres' me. The nice guy in the house. The man without cooking skills, but with five stars on the Playstation. Boss at work, relaxed at home. What you see is what you get. Life is good. I choose it to be.
