Katja and Arne's travel stories

The day after….

Anytime you have to much fun, there is always the day after. It’s not like you have to party to hard or anything, I think it’s just karma that put things right again.

Without giving out to much details I can confirm that the toilets in the hotel room can take a beating. I don’t know if it was the cake or the dinner @ the taco place, but this night was different. Still, some Imodium for an “active” stomach made all the needed adjustments. Luckily we both had just the one-nighter, and we hope that’s it for a while.

Because this day started out with 3 hours workshop on Inversions and Arm Balance. Don’t know what it is? I didn’t either. But now I do, and it was cool, hard and rewarding. Inversions (and please forgive me if I still don’t really know it) is when your head is lower that your heartĀ in a yoga position. Which means there are actually a lot of inversion poses. Still, the most commonly thought of poses are hand stand, shoulder stand etc. We started out slow, which was good for me, and moved into different hand stands. Being a level 0,5 in Yoga that was quite the challenge, but Katja got more challenges and have started towards some pretty cool (and for me strange and disturbing) poses. Side crow, being on of them. The teachers where great, and as I have written before, everybody is really helpful and supportive when you try things out.

Personally I got to do two things that marked a breakthrough towards level 1, I think. I did a crow pose – jump to Chaturanga. As we don’t film in the classes I put here a video of a total stranger from YouTube who does the same move.

It’s just as hard as it seems, with balance and core strength working in overdrive. Oh, and this is the easiest thing we tried today. The harder part is getting up into handstands or tripod or what not these poses are called. As gymnasts are jumping into these, the yoga way is to lift the legs up slowly and with no jumping. And you think you have been doing core training up til now? Think again! But we did do some pair work today that got most of us up in handstand. There are so many details involved in standing unaided that I can’t even begin to explain. Mostly because I don’t know all those details. But being with total strangers that you trust with your “life”, all is possible. And the rush you get from all that blood in your head. That is something else.

After being emptied out, both physically and mentally, we grabbed lunch and relaxed. Then did another 1,5 hours with Les again. NOW I’m beat. Katja just texted me to come meet her for dinner (she has gottenĀ her nails done), so I’m gonna wrap this up, get dinner at the local warung we just found, pass out in bed, sleep, get up at 7, do another 1,5 hour with Les at 8:00. The for Acro yoga at 14:00.

Be safe, be cool and stay frosty!
